This
house will serve as a center for education for the community.
Education, training, and leadership development will be emphasized in
many different areas relating to health promotion and available to both
the institution's staff and members of the community, including
caretakers from other institutions, rehabilitation and medical
professionals, midwives, and parents of children with disabilities. As
you can see, the intent is not to limit services to the children and
their caretakers within the institution, but to provide services and
serve as a resource to the greater community.
The
opportunity to have a permanent site will enable VIDA - Guatemala to
offer the services provided through VIDA's Health for Life program on a
more regular and ongoing basis.
Programs
that would be implemented are health services such as the PLAY project,
midwives education, HIV/AIDS education, and EcoHealth.
Our
volunteers would be housed in the institution and thus be able to stay
for longer
periods
of time. Extending a time of volunteers length of visit in Guatemala
allows for the needs of more people to be met and provides for greater
continuity of services.
